First Glimpse!

We promised teasing and we are delivering!

Here is the first glimpse of the location for the First Squatter's Den Live event on the 9th September!

Any guesses on the location?*

* no prizes for correct answers, we're broke.

SQUATTERS DEN LIVE!

It's been a long time in the making but it's finally happening...

SQUATTERS DEN LIVE has been given permanent residency at a well known east-london location!
(expect plenty of teasing about the location over the next couple of weeks)

Keep an eye on our Facebook Page www.facebook.com/squattersden and our Twitter @squattersden for all the details and a few little treats over the coming weeks!

Whilst we're not telling you the venue yet I can confirm that the first event is happening on Sunday 9th Sept 2012.

I can also confirm that it will be a free-entry event. This is something we have been working hard for so that you, the music lovers, get to come see some of your favorite bands for free!

Details of the line-up will be confirmed in the next two weeks. Expect some seriously awesome bands on the bill, like you would expect anything less from us.

I can also confirm that the launch of Squatters Den Live will also coincide with the long awaited relaunch of our YouTube page. We have been quiet for so long now and we can now explain why...

Over the past year we have been in and out of talks with sponsors, bands, brands and locations as we attempted to grow the brand and the channel.

Our aim has always been to provide bands with a platform to promote themselves. We chose are artists carefully from a long list of bands that approach us and from bands we ourselves want to feature. Over the past year we have received so many requests from bands. If you are one of the very small percentage who did not receive a reply, we are sincerely sorry, we try to make a point of replying to everyone who contacts us. This has been hard just down to the sheer volume of people wanting to get involved. Along with that we have been busy collating and contacting a group of bands and artists we want on the show, that list is now complete, combine that with the group of artists who emailed us and we've chosen, myself and Richard have a busy few months ahead of us.

As a thank you for being patient and for sticking with us... we are going to give you a special treat. For the relaunch month ONLY. We will be airing 8 videos on you all from 4 amazing bands, that's 2 video's per week! You lucky swines you!

From then on we will be returning to our original format of 4 videos per month from 2 amazing bands.

We are already preparing for our annual Xmas Special, trust me you will love it!

Finally we just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has subscribed, liked, commented on a video, shared it with friends and pestered your friends to go check us out... honestly none of what we have achieved would have been possible without you! Now more than ever we need that last big push from you all! If you in London, come on down to the first Live event on the 9th Sept, if you can't make it down or don't live near, please continue spreading the word, get people liking the facebook page and following us on twitter and subscribing to the channel.

Finally we need to say a massive thank you to all the bands that have taken part, given us their time for nothing and helped create what we hope will one day be a community of people who love to WATCH / LISTEN / FIND and SHARE new and exciting music!

Join us!

Thanks again

CAMDEN COX - "KNOTS" & "REMIND ME" REVIEW

So this is the third time we have reviewed our good friend and, in the spirit of being honest, housemate Camden Cox.

We have avoided reviewing her for a while as we didn't want it to seem like we were being biased, however with her latest two installments we couldn't sit by and say nothing, so here is our review of "Knots" and "Remind Me"...

Since the young Miss Cox started working with Shirobon the sky has seemingly been the limit. Very rare is it that two people "get" each other creatively.

This seems like a match made in heaven... Our first sight of what was to come came in the shape of a collaboration for Shirobon's debut album a link to this can be found here, starting at 0:36, but trust me it's worth listening to the whole album teaser, incredible!

Just when all were thinking, "surely the next one can't be as good", along came "Knots" and proved even this cynical old fart wrong...

"Knots", in my humble opinion, is the first track from Camden with a truly 'personal' feel to it, not the easiest thing to achieve with a DnB/DubStep backdrop. The emotion and pain is portrayed lyrically  through a clever use of metaphor and misdirection.

When listening to unsigned and up and coming artists my method is simple... "can I hear this song on the radio?" if the answer is no, then I'm afraid to say I move on... on this occasion with "Knots" I hit repeat... several times... on a side note it was somewhat embarrassing when she came into my room and I was there nodding my head like the 'Churchill Dog' ooooo noooo!

So just as I had finally finished raving about "Knots" and things had started to return back to normal, normal being my daily verbal abuse of Camden, she goes and spoils it all by saying something stupid like I love you... Wait... no... that's not true, I'm getting myself confused!

She did spoil my fun though by unleashing the DubStep beast that is "Remind Me"... without a doubt the edgier of the two tracks, she manages once again to infuse her sweet, sometimes cute vocals with this master class in DubStep producing.

Shirobon's producing leaves me somewhat lost for words, which my friends will attest is a rare occasion. In a genre that can get a tad turgid and samey Shirobon manages to create a almost new vibe that sits well within the parametres of what the DnB and DubStep genre requires, but also outside of it enough so that it would be as much at home at a rave as it would on Radio One day time playlists. I get a sense it is only a matter of time before Shirobon's name is being banded around the halls of some of the big labels.

Camden has long since moved on from the cutesy days of "How It Need's To Be" & "Lullaby", taking nothing away from those tracks - they were both great in there own rights! However like all new artists Camden has evolved and now seems to have found her sound. She would be the first to admit that she has always had a very clear idea of how it is that she wants to sound, half the battle there is finding the right person to collaborate with, she has certainly addressed that issue since linking up with Shirobon.

It's all well and good me sitting here in my pants raving on about how good these tracks are, but all music is judged on personal opinion. My job is simple, it's to bring your attention to it and then let you make up your own mind.

Like all good music should do, Camden's latest installments leave you itching for more.

While you're waiting - Artist Recap!

So whilst you are eagerly awaiting the return of Squatter's Den we thought it was time for a little catch up with the artists we have featured so far!

The Bronze Medal

A big well done to the lads in The Bronze Medal who recently rocked the introducing stage at Reading and Leeds! We watched their set with pride and hope this is only the beginning for these lads - we predicted big things from these guys, and it seems that they are proving us right!

The Squatter's Den video of Rabbit Hole is also featured on their Artist Page which is lovely for us!

Here is the bands whole reading set - go watch for yourselves!

(look out at the end for a guest appearance from on of the Out Like A Lion Boys also!)

The band has also released Milk/After You Were Quiet as a single through East City Records.

Mind Museum

The Mind Museum Lads have a new mini album called The Power of Three which is released on September 19th!
We know it will be no less than amazing!

Want to know how we know?
Other than the boys not being able to produce a song any less than incredible - there is a FREE 3 track album sampler available right now!

And there are even pinky promises from the lads of a tour soon too! And we all know a pinky promise cant be broken! sweet.

Pegasus Bridge

Finally we have to end on a sad note.

With deep sadness we have to announce - although most of you will probably already know - the boys in Pegasus Bridge have decided to call it a day. with a fairly public less than ammicable parting of ways.

It is always sad to see this sort of thing happen, however the boys are all great lads - we speak here too as friends - they deserve every success they achieved and are yet to acheive.
We have seen this band grow from very early on and have been lucky enough to be part of their journey on numerous occassions. It's a shame it had to end here - who knows how far they could have gone - But we here wish the lads, all of them, the best of luck in whatever they wish to do in the future.

Pegasus Bridge are performing a farewell show at Sound Control in Manchester on the 17th of September, all though it's sold out now.

The boys have also left us with two AMAZING songs as a farewell gift! a bittersweet taste of what the future may have held in store...

Heartstrings/BOA are available now on itunes through LAB records.

Have a listen to BOA here - We can't stop listening to it!

As for the other artists we have not mentioned... you may well here more about some of them from us in the near future - wink wink.

Coming Soon....

Hey everyone,

Whilst we have been decidedly quiet the last month or so on the upload and blog front, trust me things have been ticking over very nicely in the background.

We have some really exciting news coming very soon regarding our June and July episodes, but you will have to wait just a little bit longer for details!

I thought it would be nice to drop you all a quick message to let you know what we have coming up over the next few months. With our name getting out there finally, we are being inundated by bands and artists wanting to take part. If you are one of those people, our sincerest apologies if we haven't been able to hook you up this time round.

OK so who do we have coming up over the next few months:

We have the wonderful HEART SHAPED THINGS who will be appearing in our April 2011 episode.

We have the ever lovely and beautiful HOLLY PARTRIDGE who will be appearing in our April 2011 episode.

We have the incredible SALTSTONE from Devon who will be gracing our screens in June alongside the always amazing KLAY.

We also have an awesome band called GOODWIN SANDS from the Netherlands who will be appearing in our June episode.

So as you can see you are all in for a treat over the next few months... I am itching to drop the big news now but I really should wait until all is 100% confirmed! Damn me and my excitable nature.

In other news we are also in the process of organizing our first SQUATTER'S LIVE events that will be taking place in London later on this year. They will feature artists we have featured so far in the web-series, in an acoustic gig night like no other. There will be more news on this as soon as we have it.

Finally we want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us and the bands we have featured. A massive thanks go out to everyone who has subscribed to the channel and spread the word! Please keep telling people about us and pointing people to the YouTube page. Word of Mouth and personal recommendation is how we keep going, without you all we would be broadcasting to no-one!

Thanks everyone.
